Dehydration is not pleasant.
After only an hour in the sun today, and um, not drinking anything after my morning coffee, I got the tell-tale headache.
I dehydrate too easily. For crying out loud, in one of the high humidity states a person should not dehydrate.
Unless they're either stupid, or certain of their immortality.
Knowing that I'm not immortal....
So, I sit here, drinking ginger water, rehydrating, listening to great tunes ;) and generally berating myself for my lack of immortality.
Gingerwater, you ask?
This is a beverage my grandmother, her mother and her grandmother made for the men in the fields during haying season. Or really any hot season activity.
I don't think it's unique to our family, but I've never heard of anyone else making it.
It's like a pre-gator-ade drink and imo it means summer.
Ginger Water:
3/4 cups sugar
1 to 2 tbsps ground ginger - to taste
1/2 tsp salt
1 egg, beaten well
Beat all together well, pour slowly into a 2 quart pitcher 3/4 full of cold water. Stir well.
1 to 3 tbsps apple cider vinegar - add one at a time to the pitcher after mixing the rest of the ingredients and the water together.
Add ice to fill and serve.
Don't pour the water over the mixture, it'll foam horribly!
So far I've been through one full recipe of this in the last 2 hours.
