At Home

With The Braithwaites

I've just finished watching this dark Brit dramedy (I believe this may well hold the title of worst IMDB entry ever), which stars Peter Davison and Amanda Redman as a couple with 3 (spoiled) daughters, who win the lottery.

Hate Davison in this, thoroughly, well, there may be a moment or two where his old brilliance shines through, but the character is horrid. Love/hate Redman; the rest of the ensemble is decent, though the character of Mike Hartnell is unbelievably dull and dense.

Charlotte is by far my favorite. All brooding and moody, she's the youngest of the lot, until her mum gets pregnant by her uncle and they all have a little sister.

Did I mention the spawn is all female?

Set in northern England, some of the mannerisms and colloquialisms are a bit off-putting until you get used to them referring to their mother and father as 'me mother' or 'me mum' and 'me father' or 'me dad'. They also use the 'our (insert name here)' when referring to a family member (that isn't present) by name.

All in all I enjoyed it and die-hard Davison fans who don't mind the put-upon whiny old man that he's been playing in the last decade or so will love it.

I do so want to slap 'our Virginia', though.

Oh yes, if you watch from the links site, make sure you leave off episodes 7 and 8 of season 1 until the end of season 2, as they seem to have gotten them in the wrong spot.

Completely ruined season 2 for me, that did.
