I love yard sales; perusing through other people's lives can be so interesting.
Living in a small town at the moment, I can easily walk to seven yard sales today and not go more than five blocks.
Yard sale shopping isn't really about purchasing, it's more about the getting out, the being neighborly, the interaction with people you don't even say hello to on a daily basis.
Really close to me is the world's longest yard sale, which takes place every year along US Highway 127 through three states. I've been a few times, back in the early days, and it's fun!
Driving along US 127 isn't quite taking the back roads, but it's not the interstate either. The pace is slower, the scenery to die for (well, except in the cities, but what can I say?) and you can happen upon some really interesting stuff that isn't even part of the 'sale'.
