Packrats

We all know one, have been one or may yet become one.

Packratting is the habit of saving 'stuff' because "I may need it again someday".

Rarely does this happen.

That comfy old pair of jeans that used to fit, the jar of miscellaneous screws and bolts, the stack of magazines that you haven't looked at in 5 years.

You're probably not going to fit into those jeans again (I did, but that's another story), the jar of screws and bolts hasn't been open in so long you can't open it, the stack of magazines? nm!

For whatever reason, people keep stuff. Be it nostalgia, possibly uses, laziness, packratting is a sickness. (I say that with tongue-in-cheek)

I am a packrat.

Sure, I fit into those jeans again, but it took 7 years!

I'm working through this, culling, adding to other's people's collections!

Downsizing one's inventory aids greatly in the moving process. I would like to get mine down to fitting in the back of my (former) station wagon, including my waterbed, sans boards.

I come by this illness honestly. I'm descended from a long line of packratters. It's so much easier to tell other people they have to throw things out than it is to do it yourself.

For instance: Why do I need 14 pair of shorts that are 6 sizes too big? 23 t-shirts, also 6 sizes too big. 7 sweaters that I will probably never wear again.

I'm not getting into my fabric/buttons/ribbons and lace collection. That's not an option. Same with music and books.

And my cooking pans.

Oh, yeah, and my craft/art supplies. Not.an.option.

Okay, okay.

I'm a packrat.

I'm working on this.
