buttery, melty in your mouthy, warmy, comforty

these cookies:

Nutmeg Delight Cookies

1 cup butter
2 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda *
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cream of tarter *
pecan pieces**

Sift flour, soda, salt, nutmeg and cream of tarter together. Cream butter and sugar together. Blend in egg. Add dry ingredients to butter mixture, blending well.

Roll in 1 inch balls and place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten with fork and place a piece of pecan in center of each cookie.

Bake in a 350ºF oven for 9 - 11 mins.

Makes about 7 dozen cookies.

* 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder can be substituted for the baking soda and the cream of tarter.

** I don't really care for pecans so I used 1/2 cup of walnut pieces, ground fine and added to the mixture rather than putting them on top. That's 1/2 cup BEFORE they've been ground up.
